Benefits of Vacationing or Living in Vero Beach
My husband, Kevin Lyons and I are natives (Veroites) of Vero Beach, Florida, a small seaside town located on the East Coast of Florida where the Tropics begin. We feel privileged to live here our entire lives to witness this amazing town. Our town's overall landscape, with our city fathers limiting building heights, incredible measures to protect our natural plants, shorelines, Indian River Lagoon, wildlife adds to our quality of life in our town & county. Vacationing or living in Vero Beach brings out everyone’s personal greatness.

Vero Beach has a flourishing arts culture. This includes regular performances by symphonies, orchestras and amateurs and professionals at Riverside Theatre and the Vero Beach Theatre Guild. We can boost about new murals downtown, numerous galleries, delicious restaurants, quality breweries, beautiful golf courses and the many festivals in town year around.

Benefits of Beach Therapy

Boost your Vitamin D
There is a reason that Vitamin D is called the “sunshine vitamin”. Only 20 minutes of direct sunshine stimulates the body to produce anywhere from 15,000 to 20,000 International Units (IUs) of Vitamin D. We need Vitamin D for regulating the absorption of calcium and phosporous and for the maintenance of healthy bones and teeth. Vitamin D is also an important infection-fighter and key ingredient for a healthy functioning immune system.

Barefooting
Direct contact of skin with the earth has many healing benefits for anyone who is sick or to maintain, improve health. Illness tends to cause our bodies to gain an excessive positive charge, which interferes with our ability to function at the cellular level. This can be compounded when we are surrounded by appliances and household wiring that produce their own electromagnetic fields (EMFs). “Grounding out” the body’s positive charge helps to restore it’s natural electrical state, ability to detoxify and withstand pathogens. The effects of grounding have been widely studied; it has been found to reduce pain and lower stress.

Exercise
Being by the sea offers the perfect chance to get moving. Gentle movement in the water is the perfect place to start. Walking produces pumping action in the leg muscles that help with lymph circulation; it boosts metabolism and aids in weight loss.

Fresh Sea Air
Sea air is negatively charged, which helps neutralize free radicals and improves our ability to absorb oxygen. You might have noticed that you feel more refreshed near the ocean, a waterfall or even taking a shower. This is because all of these areas have a higher concentration of negative ions to positive ones. The ocean typically has 2000 negative ions and 1000 positive. The force or energy of the falling or splashing water causes splitting of neutral particles of air, freeing electrons which attach to other air molecules causing a negative charge. Negative ions enhance our mood, stimulate our senses, improve appetite and sexual drive, provide relief from hay fever, sinusitis, bronchial asthma, allergies, migraines, even post operative pain and burns. Negative ions stimulate the reticuloendothelial system which is a group of defense cells in our bodies which marshal our resistance to disease. Negative ions promote alpha brain waves and increased brain wave amplitude which results in a higher awareness level. The body is better able to absorb oxygen into the blood cells, oxidize serotonin and filter airborne contaminants.

Swimming Thalassotherapy
Thalassotherapy – from the Greek word thalassa, meaning “sea” involves “the medical use of seawater as a form of therapy.” It is based on the systematic use of seawater, sea products, and shore climate. In thalassotherapy, trace elements of magnesium, potassium, sodium and calcium found in seawater are believed to be absorbed through the skin. The effectiveness of this method of therapy is not widely accepted within the United States mainstream medical establishment, as it has not been proven scientifically. This is more of a historical tradition, practiced by many Europeans for generations. Ocean water is mineral-rich and an excellent treatment for skin sores, bug bites and cuts.

Socializing & Laughing
These are good for the spirit and soul. Laughter triggers the release of endorphins (feel good chemicals), boosts the immune system, releases stress and induces relaxation. Being on the beach brings out the best in humans.
